Patient and Program Support

Donors play an important role in supporting Harris Health’s mission and enhancing the patient care experience. With help from our community partners and individual donors, we are able to care for the entire well-being of our patients, not just their physical health. The following items are our most needed items for patient care and comfort.

Snack Kits
Snack kits provide food in between meals for family members as they wait on news of their loved ones, or for patients who have long appointments in our facilities, but may not have the means to buy or bring snacks.

Toiletry Kits
Toiletry kits are distributed to patients who are unable to obtain these supplies on their own. These kits of mini-tooth paste, combs or brushes are used by patients for basic hygiene needs.

Cancer Care Packages
Cancer care packages are given to patients fighting cancer at Smith Clinic’s Infusion Center and the Cancer Resource Centers at Smith Clinic and LBJ Hospital.

Handmade or Purchased Items
We are in need of comfort items like knitted, sewn or purchased baby receiving blankets (minimum size 36”x36”), adult lap/throw blankets and adult knitted chemo hats. Please contact the Development Office to confirm any other items beyond this list before purchasing.

Reach Out and Read Program Books
We are in need of brand new children’s books ages 0-5 for our Reach Out and Read Program. Physicians at our pediatric and adolescent health centers give books to children at each well-visit to promote early reading and literacy.

Bright Start Baby Baskets
Newborn baby essentials are needed for new mothers who have limited financial resources or family support. Expectant mothers in our health centers receive a basket of new, essential, basic care items for their baby during their third trimester or after delivery.

Homeless Care Kits
We want to make it easier for people experiencing homelessness to access our healthcare services. Kits containing basic hygiene essentials like toothbrush and paste provide patients compassionate care with dignity.

Compassionate Clothing Closet
The goal of this project is to provide patients who have no other resources new and needed clothes to return home in a dignified manner after being discharged. Patients in need of clothing are those who arrive at our facilities because of a traumatic injuries, homeless situations and clothing that’s unsuited for the weather or for the special needs of their injury or illness.
