Sara Thomas is the chief legal officer for Harris Health System. She oversees all legal services and consultations to Harris Health and its Board of Trustees on a variety of matters including transactions, litigation, employment, public law, health law, medical staff matters, hospital district law and board governance. In addition to leading the legal team, Thomas takes pride in serving as a strategic business partner and legal advisor to Harris Health’s leadership team and its Board of Trustees.
Thomas joined the Office of the Harris County Attorney in 2009 as counsel to Harris Health. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta (Canada) majoring in accounting and management information systems, a Juris Doctor from the Barry University School of Law in Florida where she graduated with honors and served as the editor in chief of Barry Law Review, and a Masters in Health Law (LLM) from the University of Houston Law Center. Prior to becoming an attorney, Thomas worked for an international business and information technology consulting firm where she provided management consulting services on national projects related to healthcare information systems.
